Measurement Rounding Guidelines for CustomersUpdated 2 months ago

To ensure accuracy, consistency, and the best possible fit, all customer measurements provided with decimals must follow standard rounding rules. This helps avoid confusion and ensures garments are comfortable and supportive rather than too tight.

General Rule

When a customer shares a measurement with decimals, determine whether the number is below or above the halfway point (.5).

  • Decimals below .5 → round down to the lower whole number

  • Decimals .5 or above → round up to the next whole number

This follows standard mathematical rounding principles and is especially important in garment fitting, where rounding up helps prevent discomfort.

Examples

  • 34.1 → 34

  • 34.3 → 34

  • 34.49 → 34

  • 34.5 → 35

  • 34.75 → 35

How the IA Should Explain This to Customers

When a customer asks which measurement they fall under, the IA should clearly explain the reasoning in a simple and reassuring way.

Suggested response:

“You would be considered a 35. Since your measurement is 34.75, it’s already past the halfway point, and according to standard rounding rules, we round up to the next measurement to ensure accuracy and a better fit.”

Key Principles for IA

  • Never round down when the decimal is .5 or higher

  • Use clear, friendly explanations

  • Emphasize comfort, accuracy, and proper support

  • Keep the explanation simple and confident

By following this guideline consistently, the IA will provide clear answers, reduce customer confusion, and support better fitting outcomes.
